Accidents at Work

In Belgium, the law obliges employers to subscribe for workers subject to the National Social Security Office (NSSO), but also for non-NSSO Accidents at work.

With this insurance, the victims of an accident (on the way) of work or their close relatives are assured of benefit:

Accident insurance covers workers who have suffered an industrial accident in accordance with the Act of 10 April 1971 on occupational accidents

But what is an accident at work?

Any accident which occurs to a worker in the course and by the performance of the contract of employment and which produces a lesion.

There must be an injury, an external cause and a sudden event.

When we speak of an accident at work, the notion of work path is also taken into account. Here is a brief description:

The work path is the normal journey that the worker must travel from his residence to the place where the work is performed, and vice versa.

Necessary and reasonably justifiable detours are part of the normal route.

The detour or interruption does not necessarily exclude the notion of a work path, depending on the importance of the detour or the interruption and the reason for the detour or the interruption, Interruption that the route will keep its normal character or not.
